How to Reduce Shipping Risk

How to Reduce Shipping Risk

When you’re operating a globally active business with customers spread across multiple continents, shipping is bound to form a significant part of your supply chain.

In this case, you’ll want to mitigate the many risks associated with sea freight, allowing your business to get on with what it knows best – its products.

While you manage your products and supply chain, Blu Print can take care of commercial printing, labelling and courier bags.

As a global business ourselves, the Blu Print team has a wealth of experience navigating the global supply chain and the risks associated with international shipping. You can trust us to offer the best advice, products and services to connect fellow Australian businesses to the world.

 First, What Are the Risks?

Leading digital freight forwarder, DFreight, has outlined six significant shipping risks.

Economical risks include variations in demand, capacity, fuel prices, and rates.

Political risks include international sanctions such as those imposed on Russia during its invasion of Ukraine.

Environmental risks include pollution and emission levels from a given vessel, as well as inclement weather, which can halt transportation.

Similar to political risks, geopolitical risks occur when the tension between states prevents the movement of goods through a certain region.

Operational risks include accidents that delay a vessel or the maintenance procedures which are relied upon for safe travel.

Finally, financial risks include interest rates and currency fluctuations which may cause shipping to become infeasible or too expensive.

How to Manage These Risks

No matter how big your business is, it is vital that you take these shipping risks seriously.

This begins when you choose your shipping company and perform your due diligence. A reputable shipping company should have a good reputation with flexible services and capable data collection technology.

Ensure that they have ample capacity to cater to your business as it grows and that their network is diverse enough to manage widespread disruption.

The next step to reducing shipping risk is to perfect your packaging. While Blu Print can’t provide lengthy advice on choosing a shipping company, we can talk all day about packaging.

By matching items with suitable packaging, you not only remove the risk of goods being damaged in transit, but you also improve delivery efficiency.

Oversized packaging can reduce the capacity of any vehicle and slow your dispatch rates. This of course will cause delays for customers and hurt your reputation.

Our Enviro 80 eCom satchels are a great option for apparel, sturdy electronics, stationary, beauty products and much more. Their lightweight design allows more to fit in a smaller space than something like a cardboard box would. If you want to reduce the risk of delays while improving your dispatch output, consider the benefits of soft-shell courier bags and satchels.

One of the best ways to mitigate economical shipping risks is to make use of IoT and tracking technology. These tools can collect shipping data for analysis so that you can detect the weak spots in your supply chain.

Once the data is digested, you can quickly and effectively go about fixing the holes and reducing the risk of parcels being lost or delayed.

3 Promising eCommerce Markets in 2023

3 Promising eCommerce Markets in 2023

3 Promising eCommerce Markets in 2023

As a homegrown Australian business, Blu Print knows the time and effort that goes into building a business in eCommerce or otherwise.

You perfect the product, build an audience, design some sustainable packaging, and secure a reliable supply chain from depot to delivery.

After all of these steps, you would hope that your chosen industry is looking to buy and your products will sell well into the future.

While this isn’t always the case and it’s sometimes difficult to forecast, we’ve developed a list of the most promising markets for eCommerce success.

Using this information and Blu Print’s services in packaging, printing, and personalised labels, you should have the tools to target your business towards the right markets and the right audiences.

If you need any further advice, or to learn more about our Enviro 80 eCommerce satchels, get in touch today.

Top Markets by Country

It’s becoming more well-known that the international eCommerce market is now a powerhouse in global sales, but do you know which countries are spending the most online?

Consider these top three countries as you target your next campaign and secure your supply chain en route to these demanding destinations.

China

Not only does China have the greatest share of eCommerce sales, due to its central location and therefore cheaper production costs, but it also has the highest number of digital buyers too.

The country’s total retail eCommerce sales reached almost US$2.9 trillion in 2022, representing more than 45% of its total retail sales.

This figure is expected to exceed US$4 trillion by 2027, as the country’s economic growth continues into the foreseeable future.

As mentioned above, the country also has a record number of digital buyers – 842 million as of December 2021.

If your business is suited to the Asia-Pacific region, you will absolutely want to tailor some portion of your marketing and product range to China.

The United States

A distant second while still maintaining a staggering value, the United States reached more than US$900 billion worth of retail eCommerce revenue in 2022 – less than one-third of China.

This was largely thanks in part to eCommerce behemoth, Amazon.com, which made a whopping sales revenue of over US$500 billion in 2022.

The United States is spoilt for choice when it comes to fashion, beauty or entertainment products, however, so you’ll need a significant point of difference to crack this market.

United Kingdom

Taking a break from comparing companies based on raw eCommerce sales and buyers, we turn our attention to the United Kingdom.

This research tells us that the UK tops the list for total eCommerce spend per capita at $4,201.

Leading second-placed United States by more than $750 per capita, the UK loves spending its money on Amazon (thanks America), eBay and online retailer ASOS.

The UK’s online retail space made up 4.8% of its total retail sales in 2021, an increase of over 20% on the year before.

Any Australian business targeting the UK for sales growth is sure to earn their keep with some savvy marketing and the right commercial printing products from Blu Print.

How to Perfect Your Packaging for eCommerce

How to Perfect Your Packaging for eCommerce

How to Perfect Your Packaging for eCommerce

If you look at product packaging and see a simple vessel for carrying products from depot to doorstop, you’re looking at it all wrong.

Besides the 17 times they checked the tracking code in anticipation, retail packaging is your company’s first opportunity to interact with a customer since they clicked “buy” at your online store.

Whether it’s covered in styrofoam or made from a material that’s more sustainable packaging is your way of saying “hello and thanks for choosing my brand.”

So, don’t leave that canvas blank! Get creative, continue the conversation, wow your customer and inspire them to repeat the process.

With Blu Print’s custom commercial printing and personalised labels, your next delivery can look however you want it to.

Types of Packaging

Not all packaging was created equal and your product won’t suit every package, so it pays to know what’s available to you.

The difference between choosing the right or wrong packaging can include fewer damaged goods, more efficient vehicle packing, and therefore reduced delivery costs.

Consider your product dimensions and quality as you choose from these options below:

 Cardboard boxes

Available in all sorts of shapes and sizes, cardboard is a popular packaging because it’s cheap, lightweight and there’s a box to suit your product.

Cardboard’s downfall comes when you consider packing products like apparel or fragile goods – the latter of which will require additional packaging for protection.

 Soft satchels

This is an area where Blu Print has made a name for itself, as we have developed our Enviro 80 eCommerce satchels for a range of widely-recognised retailers across Australia.

These flexible, eco-friendly packaging products are easy to produce and Blu Print sells them at a fraction of the cost of Australia’s leading postal service.

They’re well suited to non-fragile products and far more satchels can fit into one delivery van than a pile of cardboard boxes.

 Making Your Parcel Sparkle

It doesn’t literally need glitz and glam if that’s not your style or not what your customers need.

All that a good package needs to do is deliver the product, be visually appealing, represent your brand, and start a conversation.

This can be done using all kinds of elements both inside and on the outside of the parcel.

Custom-printed branding

Blu Print loves to receive all kinds of designs from clients to adorn its eCommerce postal satchels – from simple logos to funky slogans and imagery, the choice is yours.

Bright colours always make an impression on the customer, but make sure that they represent your brand’s aesthetic.

A good conversation starter might be a question about what they’ll buy next, or a QR code to revisit your store.

What’s in the box?

Once the customer rips open the packaging (after carefully considering the outside, of course), they’ll behold their long awaited product.

Sitting atop that product could be a hand-written card, thanking them for their purchase.

This personalised touch is just what some customers need to feel appreciated and encouraged to buy again.

If cute notes aren’t your style, consider including a coupon for a discount next time they shop with you. Just 10% off could be all they need to return and spend even more.

Nailing your packaging is a fine art, but it’s a crucial part of the eCommerce experience.

Environmental claims Enviro 80

Making environmental statements and claims can be a very powerful marketing tool. Companies are increasingly using environmental statements and claims in an attempt to differentiate themselves from others. Claims come in a wide range of forms including statements about sustainability, recycled material content, recycling and also environmental impacts of a product. Sellers realise that end consumers today have an increased awareness of the environmental impact that packaging has. Environmental claims are now becoming a standard message on packaging, courier bags, ecom bags and general packing. Many consumers are considering environmental claims as part of the buying decision, It is essential that consumers are provided with factual information so informed decisions can be made. Businesses which make environmental claims should ensure that their claims are, accountable, transparent, accurate and validated by a third party. End consumers rely on any environmental claims made and they expect these claims to be truthful, not false or misleading. Any false or misleading claims is breaking the law. Retail businesses must perform due diligence.

You are in safe hands with Bluprint. Enviro 80 is produced using 80% post consumer waste PE and has been endorsed by a global third party accreditation company, we take our recycle content claim with the up most importance.

The term biodegradable doesnt mean anything

The term biodegradable doesnt mean anything because everything is biodegradable eventually. Legislation in the USA forbids the term ‘biodegradable’ to appear on any product unless that product is shown to break down into elements in nature within 5 years. The problem is, in Australia regular plastic bags are being labelled ‘Biodegradable’. This misleads consumers to think these bags are made from plant matter and will return to nature which isn’t always the case. In Australia we allow companies to use the term ‘Biodegradable’ without proof, this issue is being challenged and companies will need to provide transparency, evidence and will be held accountable for any claims.

Compostable confusion

Compostable confusion

A group has been working with recycling organisations to survey shops’ anonymous responses to public anxiety about plastic polluting the oceans.

Its spokeswoman, Libby Peake, told BBC News: “A lot of shops are selling packaging described as biodegradable or compostable.

“In fact the items might only be composted in an industrial composter – and, even then, some items might not be fully digested.”

The report says: “Over 80% of consumers think biodegradable or compostable plastic is environmentally friendly, but there is little understanding of what the terms mean and how the material should be dealt with.

“Our interviewees wanted a clearer approach to where it should be used and how it should be marked to avoid confusing consumers and potentially causing more problems.”

The retailers worried that confusion could potentially harm the environment if people either put “compostable” plastic in with conventional plastic, or littered it, wrongly assuming it would biodegrade like an apple core.

Some companies that had tried using this type of plastic also suggested that the material did not degrade as expected in real world conditions.

Making Plastic from Plastic – New Initiative by Andrew Forrest

Every piece of plastic you have come in contact with in your life, still exists. This fact alone is startling as you realise every drink, shampoo, takeaway container, toy, etc that just you has used, still exists somewhere on this planet. Whether it is in a landfills, in our oceans or in our homes, plastic waste is a serious issue that our world faces.

Only 9% of the 6.3 billion tonnes of plastic waste produced has ever been recycled, as plastic is very cheap to make and more expensive to recycle. A leading suggestion made by Andrew Forrest co-founder of Minderoo Foundation proposes a global industry led initiative that fixes the broken circular economy system we have with plastics. It encouraging the recycling of plastic by increasing the value of this commodity.

Minderoo Foundation

Plastic is a finite resource, just like other finite resources recycling is the key to making sure we don’t use up all our non-renewable resources. We live in a world where everything needs to have an economic value, without value items will not be seen to be worth the investment to recycle/reuse the resource. By increasing the value of the plastic commodity the price gap between using fossil fuels and recycled plastics closes. This increase in value will also drive the collection of used plastics in countries where waste is at its worst, as used plastics will have a cashable value for people gain. This will also promote countries to stop placing collected recycled plastic into landfills increasing the circulation of usable/recyclable plastics.

With every piece of plastic still being in existence, it gives us an opportunity to harvest the plastic we have already created, and reuses this to our advantage. Reducing our need to create new plastics. The current population can utilise, thrive and survive on the current amount of plastic that the world has ever produced, by simply using the circular economy principle.

How does this fit in with us here at Blu Print?

We know how important recycling plastic is. Our partners at Redcycle help us and our customers recycle our plastic products for them to be reused to create new products. Thus, helping to create the circular economy that Andrew Forrest refers to. We see the value in reusing the plastic that the world has already created. We have produced our Enviro 80 satchels that are made from 80% recycled post consumer waste, reducing the use of virgin polymers. We are stopping tonnes of ‘new plastic’ from entering our environment, while reusing plastic that already exists.

This issue of plastic waste can be a bit daunting sometimes, but focusing on what’s better for the environment, will ultimately be better for business!
